Tai Chi - Taijiquan

Nothing in the world is softer than water, yet nothing is better for overcoming the hardness. - Laotse

By exercising Taijiquan we find the balance between tension and relaxation. Relaxation does not, in this case, mean powerlessness and sleepiness.

It is a strength that is not hard or stiff but flexible. When you are relaxed your perception is heightened and the senses are sharper. The body/ mind connection is enhanced. Improved self awareness creates a better understanding of yourself and others.

Taiji is mostly practiced slowly to reveal inaccuracies, to correct the posture and to embody the principles. All movements can be executed also quickly and dynamically.

What is Taijiquan?

Tajiquan (Tai Chi Chuan) developed from a combination of Chinese Martial Arts, healing exercises and meditation practices. It encourages the holistic development of body and mind. It is an inner Martial Art which connects the exterior movements of self defense and the inner controlled flow of Qi (life energy). The Chen style is the orginal Taiji system. It originated in the Chinese village Chenjiagou, in the Henan province. Approximately 300 years ago general Chen Wanting developed this system combining health enhancing exercises (qigong) and Martial Arts fighting movements (wushu). This unique combination creates a complete system. Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang is the descendant of the 19th generation and head of the Chen family. The World Chen Xiaowang Taiji Association (WCTA) is commited to the serious teaching of Taijiquan as a complete system. It includes the traditional hand and weapon forms, Tuishou (Pushhands) and Sanshou (fighting applications). The basis of this is authentic qigong (energy work) of the Chen family, the so called Reeling Silk (Cansigong). What sets Chen Taiji apart is the combination of flowing, spiral and dynamic explosive movements.
